Walking With Anthony is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping survivors of spinal cord injuries (SCI). The non-profit helps SCI survivors walk the path of living victoriously, specifically over the physical, emotional, social, and financial challenges of SCI. Driven by personal experience, Walking With Anthony and its leadership are committed to making a difference in the lives of those living with SCIs.
In 2010, Anthony Purcell suffered from a devastating SCI after diving into the waters of Miami Beach — something he had done dozens of times before without incident. Paralyzed and unable to resurface on his own, Anthony was saved by his cousin. Nevertheless, he faced a tumultuous path in front of him. Anthony underwent weeks of costly rehab, much of which wasn’t covered by insurance. He also struggled with depression and hopelessness.
Anthony and his mother, Micki, recognized the emotional anguish of SCI victims. As a result, they aimed to provide support to other SCI victims so they do not have to face it alone.
