Janell Harvey Recognized as CEO and Founder of Harvey Nionprofit Consulting Group (Nonprofit Consulting Academy)
Dr. Janell Harvey, a native of Gary, Indiana, has built a distinguished career as an educator, author, consultant, and nonprofit leader. Encouraged from a young age by her mother to pursue writing, she developed a passion for storytelling and communication. Although her early goal was to become a broadcast journalist, a severe burn injury shifted her career path and inspired her to dedicate herself to education and service. At only 22 years old, she became the Executive Director of Communities in Schools, where she successfully incorporated the agency and filed their IRS Form 1023 to secure nonprofit status. She later went on to earn a Master of Arts in English, a Master of Science in Education, and a Doctorate in Marketing, which led her to serve as a tenured professor of marketing for seven years before transitioning fully into consulting and nonprofit work.
As the founder of Harvey Nonprofit Consulting Group, Dr. Harvey specializes in guiding organizations through grant writing, board development, executive coaching, and securing tax-exempt status. She is also a Certified CFRE Trainer and holds an Executive Certificate in Religious Fundraising from Indiana University–IUPUI, equipping her to serve faith-based communities in their fundraising efforts. Her expertise has earned her recognition from the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, and she has been invited to speak at Harvard, Yale, and Fordham Universities. Beyond consulting, she is the host of the “Take 5” YouTube series, where she delivers practical nonprofit and fundraising strategies, and co-host of the Faith and Fundraising podcast on KingdomPurposeRadio.com, blending faith with nonprofit leadership.
Dr. Harvey is also an author, writing on how to start and sustain faith-based organizations, while supporting creative youth initiatives such as her son’s project, Cyber Bros Against Cyber Bullying. Rooted in faith, family, and community service, she shares her journey alongside her husband, Elder Terrence Harvey, and their two sons, Isaiah and Terrence.
